Welcome
A tradition of excellence since 1873: these words sum up the soul of St. Michael School. Excellence in teaching children the values of their faith. Excellence in academics, teaching each child to strive to be the best he/she can possibly be. Excellence in preparing children to be successful in high school and beyond. And, excellence in educating leaders, who go on to become committed members of the community.
How do we do this? We are blessed to have a dedicated faculty, committed to Catholic education, for whom teaching is a vocation. We have the support of a vibrant parish, many of our parishioners are alumni and are happy to continue to support the school. And, we have caring, involved parents who understand that the combination of faith and academics that are central to SMS are the values they want for their family.
We are dedicated to continuing this tradition. As part of our accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, we are completing a five year strategic plan that will ensure that our program remains true to the mission of our school, while remaining current with today’s students. We are integrating our curriculum, making technology an important aspect of each subject area. We ask our students to involve themselves in community service, teaching them that they are part of the global community, and that they have an obligation to those less fortunate.
Our students are taught to be responsible, to be involved and to challenge themselves. Often their counterparts at other schools tell them the workload is easier, the demands on them are less. We understand this. But after graduation, as they go on to high school, our former students return to thank us. They tell us they are prepared and show us they are by excelling in IB and AP programs, by taking honors courses and playing leading roles in student government and sports programs. Perhaps I can sum it up best by quoting a recent graduate “Sending me to St. Michaels was the best thing my parents ever did for me.”
St. Michael School is not for everyone; it is a commitment. It is also a family. It is a place where teachers know the names of every student in the school, and where the students know and help each other. It is a place where faith permeates the entire curriculum, and where each student is taught to utilize to the fullest the talents and abilities that he/she has been given by God. If this is what you would like for your child, please give us a call. We’d love to welcome you to our family.
